Background and Need
The CEO and Board of RFDS (Qld) required that their IT environment and associated capability be reviewed to ensure it is optimally configured and organised to provide for current and future business needs.
Description of Service
JP Consulting was asked to:
- Report on the adequacy of the existing IT management structure and workforce model, including any recommendations for current and future requirements.
- Review current IT sourcing arrangements and provide options for IT sourcing moving forward.
- Provide recommendations on industry and best practice performance management systems (KPIs) that should be adopted to enable effective monitoring and benchmarking of the performance of the IT network.
- Conduct a technology review and report on the capabilities of existing IT infrastructure to ensure it is capable of meeting the future demands associated with the implementation of future projects.
- Review the performance management of the current IT sourcing arrangements. Report on the provider’s capabilities as a network management services provider to efficiently and effectively monitor, report on and remediate network performance issues associated with the cloud and over the local and wide area network.
- Conduct a technology review on the current infrastructure to provide key risks and realistic and affordable solutions to enhance the efficiency of IT across the organisation. This should consider but is not limited to failure points; licencing arrangements; security risks; network capability and risks; and infrastructure performance and vulnerabilities.
A methodology for the Review was developed, agreed and executed. The delivered report included a description of the current state, an analysis of issues and challenges, 37 specific actionable recommendations, and advice on models for IT Organisation design, Service KPIs, and other areas of importance.

Outcomes
The Review report was accepted and formed the basis of organisational and IT service management changes that were subsequently implemented.
