Mission
The basic mission of the Health SIG is to promote the interests of QTIG members in the health sector. The supporting objectives are:
- To build strong links between industry and Queensland's health sector by bringing together the following groups:
- Health sector people with an interest in IT&T
- IT&T industry people with an interest in health
- To provide an opportunity for collaboration within industry to address the many business opportunities in the Queensland health sector.
- To be active in dealing with government bodies in the development of policies and programs that relate to potential business opportunities for QTIG members.
- To provide opportunities for the education of industry about health, and health about industry.
Operation of SIG
- Meets on the fourth Tuesday of most months. There is no charge for the meetings and anyone with an interest in Health IT&T is welcome to attend.
- IT&T industry people who participate in the SIG are required to join QTIG, and health sector people are encouraged to join AHIA (Qld) - Australian Health Informatics Association (see the SIG's web-site for information).
- Meeting notices are sent by email to the AHIA-QLD email list, distributed by fax, and published on the SIG's web-site.
Achievements for 1997
- Strengthened alliance with AHIA (Qld). This included cross-promotion of meetings and group activities, and membership of Jeff Parker on the State Executive.
- The SIG and its meetings continued to be viewed by senior management of Queensland Health as an important forum to interact with industry.
- Provided significant opportunities for people involved in health informatics in Queensland to learn about current and key issues and to network with their peers.
- The SIG played a major role in providing input to Queensland Health regarding the arrangements for a Preferred Suppliers Panel, which resulted in a significant change of plans by Queensland Health reflecting the views of industry.
- The SIG again provided its support to Queensland's IT&T conference and exhibition for the Healthcare Industry, held at the Wesley Hospital on November 7-8 1997.
